Free Drivers License!

 As of May 2012, drivers license fees for certain youth and young adults in foster care have been waived.

Senate Bill 218 waives driver license fees for youth in DFPS temporary or permanent managing conservatorship and for young adults aged 18-20 who reside in a DFPS paid foster care placement. 

To learn more, contact your primary caseworker or a Preparation for Adult Living (PAL) staff member.

The program Lifeline Across America, in partnership with nonprofit organizations across the country may be able to assist some consumers with paying a landline or cell phone bill. If you are interested, please visit www.lifelinesupport.org for eligibility requirements and the names of service providers who participate in the program. You may also call the Federal Communications Commission at
1-888-225-5322.

Texas Foster Youth Justice Project
The Texas Foster Youth Justice Project helps current and former foster youth in Texas by providing legal advice, assistance, guidance and representation in enforcing foster youth rights. They also work to educate the general public about the legal needs and concerns of foster youth.

All over Texas, students are stepping up, and fueling the movement called Generation TX. Generation TX connects us to each other and clarifies the steps we need to take on the path to college and career education, from taking the right classes and tests, to applying to colleges, and then finding the money to pay for school.
