VAYOTS DZOR REGION

KHOROVATS STANDS - C
Along the main road to Sissian are numerous Khorovats Stands, almost all of them serving cheap and hearty grilled meat and vegetables. Roadside service, with tables arranged outdoors facing the Arpa River. 1200-1500 AMD per "shish" (skewer) of meat, which is enough for two people.

YEGHEGNADZOR

IN TOWN:
Several cafes that all offer the same sandwich/grill combination at around 250-1250 AMD. Meals at larger venues up to $10 on average. Not real standouts, except the main park café, which is quite tasty.

A few along the road, sandwiches and grill run 300-1200 AMD, meals a little more.

ODJAKH - C+
Armenian cuisine
Located on the West (Yeghegnadzor) end of town
Notes: serves delicious and inexpensive meals. Papik, chef and owner, studied at the culinary Institute of Prague. Unbelievable dishes, starting at 500 AMD, a full meal between 1500-2600 AMD.

Notes: Excellent Armenian food in Castle lodge decked out ins wood. Not cheap, but very good.

JERMUK

IN TOWN:
In season, there are a LOT of cafes and restaurants open throughout the town. The prides are comparable at sandwiches 350-800 AMD and meals between $4-12 on average. No real standouts, they are all about the same quality, so pick the setting you most like.

SISSIAN

IN TOWN:
Lots of cafes along the road into town, each more decked out than the other. Tastes and cuisine are much the same, prices comparable at 500 AMD per shish of Khorovats, sandwiches 250-750 AMD, meals between 1000-5000 AMD.

HOTSATUN - C+
Armenian cuisine
Located just off the center of the town
Notes: Two dining halls. The one to eat in is the small Bread Museum, which has displays of wheat and all things for reaping its wholesome goodness. The menu varies according to season, but a delicious meal with wine and the sweet banter of your waitress Evgenia is less than 3000 AMD per person.

GORIS

IN TOWN:
Numerous cafes and restaurants around the park and center. All very good, all between $5-12 for full course dinners. Sandwiches and a la carte at 250 AMD to $5.

SEDA'S GUEST HOUSE - C+
Take the road north of town (do not turn at HWY exit to Goris, continue on) to the first group of houses on the ravine NE of town, turn in the 3rd navigable street and start asking. Not easy to find.

Notes: She serves for guests, but if you call ahead and she is willing, the best home cooked meal in Siunik (outside of mom's of course)

KAPAN

IN TOWN:
Lots of cafes and restaurants in town, the best café is at the cultural palace, no best restaurant, so many are so good. Cheap eats at $1 or less, meals from $2-5 easy, can go up to $10 if you are really hungry.

KAPAN HOTEL - $++

Notes: avoid like the plague! Food mediocre, sky high prices for foreigners.

GANZASAR ZANGEZURI BRINZI MOLITEN COMBINATI PENSION - C+ / $+
6 kilometers outside of town to Old Kapan district, turn L at small sign, cross river and go up the mountain road 4 kilometers to the rest house

Notes: The best location of any lodge in Armenia, with forest laden Mt. Khustup towering over the secluded site. Guest house open summer season, but manager is on site and might be talked into letting you stay. will serve meals on request, call ahead. Typical fair ($10 a day) is so-so, but for special requests, excellent Armenian delicacies--ask for mushroom dishes. Expect to pay up to $10 for the better meal.

KAJARAN

IN TOWN:
Café/restaurants by the park are the best, 250 AMD to $5 on average. Grill, greasy, yummy.

HOTEL GANZASAR - C

MEGHRI

IN TOWN:
Lots of cafes and eateries, lots, lots, LOTS. On average cheap eats 50-50 AMD, meals from 1200 AMD - 3600 AMD.

Notes: not so cheap at $6-9, better to go into town.
