Near Yerevan includes Echmiadzin (the most visited monumnets in Armenia), Ashtarak and Biurakan (on Mt. Araragats) and Metsamor (near Echmiadzin). Each is worth an overnight in their own right, but if you can't, do stop and eat.
Aside from Echmiadzin (which is a little jaded by the constant tourist traffic, but still worth the stop) each area is distinct, the village matsun (yogurt) is unbeliveably good, the meat moister, the vegetables fresher.
